What's all this with Emily Bronte? I have a great admiration for her and by the way, she had a Yorkshire accent which is a million miles away from your attempt at imitation. Anyway, aside from this rant of mine, which I just had to give in to, I have arrived at this video from watching you speak about my patron saint, St. Therese of Lisieux and her Little Way which I very much enjoyed. Thank you. P.S. Oh by the way, I would say, Emily Bronte would have understood the Little Way and practiced it!! In her very slightly refined Yorkshire accent when speaking, of course.

I’ve definitely done the “sneaky” “Father, can I ask a question please…?” a couple of times in the confessional to my parish priest. The first time I asked a few questions, I didn’t even ask for absolution and I felt so weird and embarrassed afterwards (never doing that again)! I’m pretty sure he knows it’s me since I go to daily mass, and one of the few my age who regularly goes, but I’m too shy to do face-to-face confession or ask him directly to be my spiritual director since I’m not exactly discerning my vocation or anything big. 😂 Thank you Father for affirming it’s okay to ask in the context of confessional! During my last two confessions, he asked me what I’m working on this time, and then the following month he asked me what I think I should/can do to become a great person. (Perhaps he is already acting as my spiritual director😅)

Respectfully, this is rather simplistic and appears to reinforce the message that those of us who want to serve and grow as missionary disciples and constantly come up against barriers, and at times hostility, from clergy and laity alike should 'suck it up'. Its challenging not to get burnt out, distracted and fed up when those around you in the Church don't want to welcome, don't want to meet people where they're at and don't want to even entertain the idea of exploring what discipleship is for them personally. Frankly, when that's the culture and mindset - all you have left is prayer and crying out to God. Its a tragedy that this is the reality and experience of many people in parishes in the UK and beyond.

10 years ago or so, I was praying by my bed for something to do, a job. I kept getting urges to go and pray with a homeless man. I resisted, even though the homeless man kept coming into my path. Then one day I went up to the council because I had an old sofa to get rid of. I went to pay at the counter only for the lady to say 'your card isn't signed.' I protested and asked for a pen. She told me I couldn't sign it there and would have to come back. I left the council and phoned with the objective of paying on the phone. I was walking along, and just before the payment was made the phone cut out. I was standing next to the homeless man. Anyway, long story short. He came and slept on that sofa in my shed. Because of this, I went to my vicar (I'm Anglican don't shoot me) with an idea for a night shelter. He told me if it was God's will someone else would say it to me. Someone did and a shelter started. After that shelter eventually separated from the church and became an independent charity by coincidence I met someone who wanted to start one in another town, and so we did. Was quite an amazing experience over a good few years. Also, once when I was going to give up I was led to read Matthew 25:33 onwards. Over the years that reading followed me when I had to give talks about the shelters at the front of different churches. Back then I was on the sick long term as I'd suffered much mental illness, although stabilised enough. Now, them magical days are over, God has retired me into being a social worker. Quite an amazing experience.

We had a sermon last Sunday about spreading the gospel. It really hit me hard. He mentioned that many of us hide our faith in public. If we didn't we may be open to inspiring others or at least give them an opportunity to ask. You wear a habit and people see your faith. I wear a miraculous metal but it's always under my clothes. I don't always physically make the sign of the cross outside my home, etc. He mentioned all these things. I will begin making a concious effort to not hide my faith.

Preach! This is basic Christianity and salvation is core to the understanding, and love of Jesus Christ and his church
